About Conference

Economic development requires sustainable and shared increases in per capita income accompanied by changes in the structural composition of an economy towards higher value added goods and more efficient production methods. Entrepreneurs can contribute to economic development by facilitating the reallocation of resources from less to more productive uses.

The concept of entrepreneurship, and its association with innovation, creativity, is quite new to Jordan until very recently. Neither educational institutions nor workplaces encouraged this type of behavior. People traditionally expected the Government to serve as the main employer in the country. Many people still see civil service positions as highly desirable, most of the women in Jordan work in the education sector.

The JEA has about 130,000 members, 25% out of those members are women. It is anticipated that the number of members will increase up to 185,000 engineers in a couple of years, and the women engineers’ percentage will increase up to 30% of the total number of engineers.

Furthermore, several studies found that women receive about 50% of the total educational resources nevertheless they own only 5% of the companies worldwide, although they are capable to innovate and lead in an effective and efficient manner like their male counterparts.

To encourage innovation and empower women to take their role as active players in the national development; Jordan Engineers Association decided to organize an Entrepreneurship Conference for women Engineers to build a community of existing and potential Women Engineers who are players on Entrepreneurship scene in Jordan and inspire them to develop a 'can-do' entrepreneurial mindset that leads to accomplishing their goals.
