The
contemporary city is witnessing a rapid and sudden accelerated growth and
development in its urban and social structure; this is a unique event that
hardly occurred since the industrial revolution. Vagueness of planning policy
and land use plans is a result of diverse and contradictive forces that affect
the city morphology.
Within this urban scenario; high rise buildings and development become a
major phenomena , in addition to being a clue on urban development on the macro
and micro scale. The Arab and Jordanian cities are exposed heavily to
urgent needs due to economic and investments demands in the last two decades,
all within an elevated and crucial debates and discussions on how our cities
should grow and expand; horizontally or vertically and on what basis this
growth and development is allowed to happen in terms of character , identity
and vocabulary of intervention
